Affordable getaway with gorgeous views and privacy!

Situated on over an acre of tropical forest, and built into natural surroundings, this modern vacation home offers all the conveniences of contemporary living. At 800 feet above the sea, you'll enjoy the most spectacular sunrises and breathtaking vistas of Coral Bay, East End, BVI's, and the Drake Passage.

Private and secluded on a cul-de-sac, yet 5 minutes away from the village of Coral Bay, Chudali is surrounded by untouched island foliage, as well as decorative flowering plants and fruit trees. High elevation and constant trade-winds assure cool comfort, tranquility and closeness with nature.  A large tiled patio area is just steps to a tiled pool deck, where you can relax in an informal and comfortable setting, enjoy the cool pool, natural stone wall and Saltillo floor tile, the artistic touches of the owner/artist, and most of  all, the ever-changing colors of the Caribbean.

The house features a large Great Room with comfortable furnishings and an entertainment center (internet, Roku).  A 15 feet sliding glass door in the living room opens to a spacious covered deck overlooking the harbor below. The fully-equipped kitchen features stainless steel appliances, plenty of cabinets and counter space. The house sleeps up to five guests comfortably. Two air-conditioned bedroom suites, one with king-size bed and one with two twins,  both with private baths, open to a fully furnished deck with magnificent views. A separate room with a full-size sleeper sofa can be used as an extra bedroom. The entrance is off the deck so the room is completely private. There is a half-bathroom (toilet/sink). There is also a full bathroom on the main floor.

The most famous beaches and National Park trails are within  15 minutes drive. There are hiking trails right from the house, leading to one of the most beautiful hidden National Park treasures, Lameshure Bay, where you can enjoy great snorkeling. The nearby village of Coral Bay offers restaurants, grocery stores, a deli, snorkeling and boat rentals, as well as horseback riding.

Please note: The house is not childproof and a four-wheel drive vehicle is preferred. There is an apartment down below main house with a separate entrance and driveway for owners’ use. It is used at owners’ discretion.

Dear Elizabeth,

Bob and I and the kids really had such a wonderful holiday while staying at Chudali.  I think we are all still going through the paces of everyday life with the memories of St. John and our time together not far from our minds.  I cannot remember a vacation ever bringing us so close together as a family as this one; this trip gave us so much more than just the beautiful beaches and I don’t think any of us will over forget the week we spent in St. John!

Your house was beautiful, with magnificent views of the hillside, bays and surrounding ocean.  I can see why you decided to build your house so high up on the hillside.  We all loved waking up each morning to the brilliant sunshine streaming through the windows, the fresh cool air and the sound of the wind swirling around us (sometimes howling around us!).  It was a real pleasure to make some tea and then sit on the deck and look out towards the ocean to enjoy the view, without a care in the world and the expectation of a full day ahead of exploring the island, swimming, snorkeling, eating good food and just enjoying each other’s company.

It was an added bonus to meet Luba, Eddie and your delightful granddaughter Naima.  Of course they do a wonderful job of taking care of the house for you while you are gone, but more than anything we enjoyed their company.  Our youngest son Jack was quite taken with Naima, and ventured downstairs many times to play at her house.  In short, we had a memorable and thoroughly enjoyable stay at your home Chudali, and wanted to thank you so much for allowing us to share it with you.

Best wishes and thanks to you and your husband.

Dear Elizabeth,

We wanted to let you know that we had a great time at Chudali. We look forward to renting your villa again in the near future.

We love the view so much that we explored the area with a realtor to see homes for sale in the Coral Bay area .

                                                           Have a Happy Holiday Season,

                                                                    Vickie and Jack A.

We had a great time in St. John!  We loved the house!  It couldn’t have gotten any better.  We really want to thank Owen for picking us up at the dock and taking us to get our rental.   Our trip in on Saturday was horrible (missed flights, airport lounges) ugh ~  with his help, it really made our bad luck getting there turn around.  We are definitely going to recommend your house to any of our friends looking for an island get-away!

Wow! That was our collective expression when we arrived at your beautiful house in paradise. We found the road to be great fun. The sign has been knocked down and arriving the first night around night fall heightened the incline of the drive. I'm so glad you included that little blimp about needing a four wheel drive in one of your emails.

Your house is amazing, and what great details that you added with your pottery. We loved the touches in the pool and in the showers. Waking up to that view was. as you know, waking up to paradise. We were very careful in the house and really didn't spend much time there as the beach was our "home"

We had the greatest time and the family grew as a collective whole. The daily big decision was which beach to go to. Maho was the favorite as Caroline could sleep in the car just steps from our beach towels. Brenden, age 5, was a fish as he snorkeled with me everyday. No intimidation or life jacket. As the tans fade the memories are strong, and the desire to return begins on the plane ride home. On behalf of my family, I can't thank you enough for allowing us the share of your home.

Dear Elizabeth.....Wow!!!!

Wonderful...splendid....excellent...unbelievable...relaxing ....beautiful...perfect......peaceful ....a do not do Chudali  justice...comfortable...felt at a fabulous home....good music....lovely pottery (especially the pitcher by the pool) vacation of our lives.... I have to run off and teach, but will get back with you later...just wanted to dash off a few words that captured the spirit of our vacation.....

Lots of warm feelings.....

Having recently split a vacation between the Caneel Bay Resort and Chudali, we feel we are in an excellent position to compare and contrast the two accommodations. Caneel, of course, is dramatically more expensive. Its rooms, while well-appointed, were small and dark in comparison to Chudali's spacious and bright environment. We had a beachfront room at Caneel, but since it was west-facing, our view to the sea was hampered by the direct glare of the sun. Chudali offers beautiful (breathtaking actually) views from the morning sunrise throughout the day. We were unable to use our deck at Caneel during the afternoon because of the heat and direct sunlight, whereas at Chudali the decks were delightful due to the ever-present tradewind breezes from the east which were almost entirely blocked at Caneel Bay. We don't intend this as an indictment of Caneel--it is beautiful and compares favorably to other world class resorts. Rather, we offer this to properly illustrate the beauty and comfort in Chudali, the loveliest villa on St. John.

Hi Elizabeth,

Thanks so much for letting us stay at your beautiful home. Also, we can't thank you enough for letting us stay for the whole week after our weather issues from hurricane Irene. The fantastic week we had in St. John was the perfect compliment to the amazing wedding we were fortunate to have.

First, you must have one of the premier views on the Island. After getting over the initial shock of the drive up, we were totally in awe by the vantage point of the house and the sweeping views it offers. The whole island offers fantastic views around every corner. We loved the house and were impressed by your artwork that we found throughout. It really compliments the rest of the house. The indigenous plants and flowers are beautiful. We did have some bug adventures, including some ant like bugs we found in the bed, but really chalked it up to island living and being in such a remote area. We were careful to leave food in the frig and seal and store things to not attract creatures.

We especially loved the pool area. We felt secluded and alone (which is exactly what we were looking for on the honeymoon) without any worries. Very relaxing. Also, the whole front of the house opening up to a large screened in area invited the breezes and warm tropical air in. We loved the layout of the house affording views from the bedrooms and almost everywhere in the house.

Obviously it was the off-season. It really gave us the opportunity to talk to locals, discover the Island and see what island living is all about. We especially liked Trunk Bay and Salt Pond Bay. Aqua Bistro was our favorite for dinner and even found out the chef was from Boston. Skinny Legs and Island Blues were a hit too.

It was everything we were hoping for and more. We would definitely recommend it to others. We tried to leave the house in the same condition it was when we arrived. Thanks again for your generosity. Hope to talk with you again soon.

Warm Regards,

Brian & Jamie
